Free trial of 15 days or more? Illinois wants a heads-up

If your free trial or promo period lasts 15 days or longer and then renews on its own, Illinois asks you to tell the customer before it ends. Since 1 January 2025, the Automatic Contract Renewal Act says:

• Send the notice during the trial, no less than 3 days before the cancel deadline.
• Send it the way the customer usually hears from you, such as email.

A good note says when the trial ends, what they'll be charged, and how to cancel online. Customers who decide to stay do so knowing what they signed up for, which makes for steadier renewals.
